The Southern New England Softball League provides a great atmosphere for anyone and everyone to learn and play softball in the Connecticut and Western Massachusetts areas.

Currently there are six teams in the league, providing everyone in Southern New England an opportunity to have fun, make friends and stay active.

The league is an active member of NAGAAA (The North American Gay Amateur Athletic Association).

Today,February 21, marked the beginning of the new season and the end of my tenure as commissioner. I have been honored to have served as your commissioner for the past four years and I have tried to represent our league's interest locally and on the national scene as best I could. It is my hope to be able to step back and just be a player and be available to consultations if asked. I still have some physical challenges ahead before I can make definitive plans for myself for 2010.However, the many acts of kindness and support from emails, calls, letters, visits, and even a personal delivery of Jewish penicillin by Stephanie helped get me through many rough weeks.
I am confident that Sam Lehman will be an excellent strong commissioner. I have worked cooperatively with Sam on many issues over the last few years. However, Sam is going to need the help and support of all board members, who need to think of what is in the best interest of the league before their own parochial issues. There are a lot of challenges ahead, particularly with the league suddenly expanding from four to seven teams. Years ago I had a vision of our league becoming sort of a super-regional league. Now it appears we are headed in that distinct direction. We no longer can just simply rotate a schedule through four cities with all teams playing at the same site. However, in order for our expanded league to be successful, everyone on the board needs to work cooperatively and put forth a little extra effort. From what I saw at today's meeting, you all seem to be focused and determined to make 2010 successful. I wish the board collectively all the best, and each of you success and health throughout this year.
Thank you,
David
