Recap of games: Springfield vs. Hartford
Game 1 Winner Springfield
Game 2 Winner Springfield
Host Hartford dropped a pair of games to a resurgent Springfield team Sunday. Meeting for their first time since Hartford drubbed Springfield in two games in New London a few weeks back, Springfield managed to win one in a runaway and another in a nail biter. In the first game Kevin squared off against commissioner Jarnes for probably the fiftieth time they've pitched against one another in their lengthy careers. Payback was at hand as Springfield’s methodical not flashy attack scored in every inning but the fourth. Bizarre plays and sloppy base running made the game an entertaining contest, ultimately Springfield would win the blunderfest by a score of 14-5. David Jarnes notched yet another victory to his belt while Kevin took the loss.
Mark took the mound for Springfield in the second game while the seemingly tireless Kevin would pitch yet another doubleheader, Hartford is the only team without a two man rotation in the league. Hot hitting Matt would lead the hard hitting charge of Hartford, at bat for at bat Hartford can hit the ball as hard as any team in the league. The day would belong to Springfield however, needing a win to clinch first place for the regular season Springfield was steady as she goes. Hartford hit the stitches out of the softball Sunday but thanks to some fine defensive plays of gold glover James Baillargeon in left center a lot of Hartford’s hard hit balls would be tracked down. Getting a boost from catcher Charlie who is having a banner year behind the plate for Hartford the close contest wasn't decided till the seventh inning when Springfield padded their lead to four runs. Mark would finish strong in the bottom half of the inning getting Hartford to go three and out. Playoffs loom large on the horizon, Springfield will be host to what promises to be and exciting weekend of softball during the dog days of August as Bette Davis said fasten your seatbelts its going to be a bumpy ride.
