Recap of games: Hartford vs. New Haven
Game 1 Winner Hartford
Game 2 Winner New Haven
Game One:
Kevin pitched another masterful game scattering six runs through 7 innings for Hartford's 4th with in a row! Although he didn't have a big lead to work with, there were fine defensive plays by Orlando, Julie, and Cathy. New Haven came on strong in the bottom of the seventh, in a nail biter finish. With the tying run at third and the winning run at 2nd, Kevin got New Haven to ground out for the final out.
Game Two:
New Haven's bats, coupled with Hartford's errors made the game pretty much a run away. PeeWee (Robbie) started the game leading off with a triple and we never looked back combining some nice hits with some intentional walks with some errors by Hartford. Breanna lost one of her fingers - ok it was only almost her complete nail but being tough as nails as she is she got her finger wrapped up and was back on the field as if nothing had happened. New Haven scored 5 runs in the first and 5 in the second to take a commanding lead. Hartford had some good offensive production late but it wasn't enough to catch New Haven.
Recap of games: New London vs. Springfield
Game 1 Winner Springfield
Game 2 Winner Springfield
Springfield improved it's record to 11-5 with a sweep of both games against New London Sunday. Springfield's offense was revved up, in the first game after faltering in the first inning going three and out Springfield began it's methodical attack. New London bolted out to a three run lead after one but saw it's hitting attack stall against pitcher Jurassic Jarnes, bolstered by an invigorated defensive effort by Jim Morris who made numerous fantastic plays in the field Springfield went on to win the game 17-6. Billy Bourque was hot for an otherwise muted New London offense, steady hitting Daniel Shover lead the way for Springfield's offensive assault. David was the winning pitcher with Krissy taking the loss.
Game two was much the same as the first, the game was a close contest until the fourth inning when Springfield hit around their order scoring a season high twelve runs in the inning essential knocking the wind out of New London. Al Dirocco helped minimize some of the damage of Springfield’s assault making some fine defensive plays but alas New London would lose game two by a score of 19-8. David Jarnes was the winning pitcher Holmes was on the losing end. New London had an off day much like Springfield last weekend; they have a talent laden team that makes them a dangerous opponent despite their last place position in the standings they will be a formidable foe come playoff time. Last seasons champions New Haven remain in second place while an equally dangerous Hartford team remains tucked away in third place. Mark.
