Athletic Directors Weekly Update

Another Sunday and another day of splits. The preppy Ivy League city of New Haven hosted our games last week, after a muddy clean up we got under way. The sun decided to make a brief appearance to help dry the filed. Many thanks to all four teams who pitched in and helped get the fields in playing condition. Southern New England rookie sensation Krissy (Hartford) pitched the winning game for Coach Phil and hit 3 for 4 bringing in 2 RBI's. Krissy’s win allowed New London to hold on to a slim one game lead in second place, Billie’s crew now stands in at an even 6 and 6, game details below.

Recap of games: Springfield vs. New Haven
Game 1 Winner Springfield
Game 2 Winner New Haven

It was a spectacular sunny day for softball but mother nature did leave her mark with what amounted to a mud pit but thanks to all teams the fields were made ready for play and the games were afoot. It was yet another week of splitsville, Springfield defeated New Haven in game one with New Haven taking a thriller in the seventh in game two. Game one pitted wily veterans Johnny Dags against David Jarnes who learned how to throw a Knuckler from Abner Doubleday back in the 1800's. Both teams offenses brought their hitting shoes as both games featured some hard hit balls. Taylor was at it again hitting line drives just past the outreached gloves of Springfield defenders New Havens hitting attack was well balanced throughout the afternoon. But game one belonged to a relentless attack of Springfield’s three four and five hitters with Big Ben absolutely on fire at the plate. Game two was a squeaker, New Haven outlasted Springfield as Johnny Dags picked up the win with Mark taking the loss. With the help of Taylor and New Havens big bats of Bobby Wilson and Sammy New Haven put the pressure on the Springfield defense and displayed a steady hitting attack that was to much for Springfield to overcome. It's proving hard for teams to sweep a doubleheader as the past several weeks saw splits on both fields, Springfield remains atop the standings but all four teams seem to be shaking off the rust of a long off season and getting back to form. A quick note of gratitude, thanks to all the players who set up behind the plate each game, catching is one of the toughest jobs on the field and I feel the least appreciated so my hats off to all the guys and gals who set up behind the plate game after game.

Recap of games: New London vs. Hartford
Game 1 Winner New London
Game 2 Winner Hartford

Game one belonged to Krissy and Team New London. Both teams exchanged leads throughout the game with New London coming up strong in the bottom of the 6th to take a 2 run lead and the win.
Game 2 was a pitchers duel, with both Holmes and Hunky Kevin keeping the other teams hitters at bay. Hartford's bat's came alive in the bottom of the sixth, when Rob walked and went to third on Phil's double. Rob scored on Bruce's hit and Phil stole home while the infielders weren't looking, bringing Hartford within 2. In the bottom of the 7th, 2 pinch hitters were used and Shane had a hit taken away when he hit a line drive off of Enoch that bounced in the air to Erika who made a great catch! Quincey then singled with 2 outs, followed by a clutch single by Orlando and then Rob hit a huge double that cleared the bases for the win! Some notable preformances Hartford included Big Hunky Kevin for his pitching and Cousin Brucey for his timly hitting. It should also be noted that New London had two key clutch hitters; Krissy Wild and the one and only Holmes Girado.
