New Haven Places 3rd in New York Tournament

This past July 4 weekend the SNEFSL had two teams participating in the Playing For life tournament in Central Park of New York City. Both teams acquitted themselves very well, reaching the semi-finals of the tournament. New Haven impressed in the round robin games sweeping them to be seeded number 1 and then winning its opening round elimination game. Springfield started slowly losing both round robin games and its opening elimination game. In day two New Haven lost a close game but reached the semifinals.

Springfield, facing elimination won three straight games including one against a New York team that had beaten them twice the day before to reach the semifinals against fellow league partner New Haven. Torrential rains put a sudden end to the tournament after the first inning of the game. Everyone had an enjoyable weekend making and reestablishing  friendships with opponents from various cities.

Congratulations to the New Haven team for keeping Southern New England in the tournament winners column along with the previous first place win accomplished by the New London Squad in the Philadelphia tournament

With the Seattle GSWS only about six weeks away it is time to concentrate on organizing our league for that weeklong event. There will be announcements regarding the GSWS through your team managers during this week. Meanwhile, for anyone planning on going to the GSWS, hotel reservations at the specially negotiated GSWS rate are available through links in the NAGAAA website (nagaaasoftball.org). There are several hotels designated as host hotels. If you make a reservation, please mention that your are from SNEFSL as we need to have enough hotel night stays in order for our league to receive its $300 hotel deposit back. Keep in mind that upon making a hotel reservation with one of the host hotels your credit card is charged for one night.
This weekend we will be in New London. Don O'Neil and the Brass Rail will put on its usual fine buffet and entertainment. Also, New London will be having its famous sailfest Saturday. Vaughn sent out an email a few days ago regarding viewing of the sailfest from the Rail. Hopefully many of you can take advantage of this.
